SF Academy Orchestra —Directed by Andrei Gorbatenko

An exceptional performance by the orchestra brought vibrant energy to Calvary.

The San Francisco Academy Orchestra, led by conductor Andrei Gorbatenko, brought its Autumn Lineup: Telemann & Mozart to Calvary Presbyterian Church in San Francisco on Sunday, November 23, 2025. The program featured a standout performance by Leo Plashinov, violist with the San Francisco Symphony, whose interpretation of Telemann’s Concerto for Viola showcased both technical mastery and expressive depth. The orchestra’s young professional players brought vibrant energy to Mozart’s Salzburg Symphonies (K. 136, 137, 138), offering audiences a dynamic afternoon of classical excellence.

The concert was a celebration of the artists at its center—musicians dedicated to craft, collaboration, and the continued evolution of orchestral performance. Gorbatenko’s leadership created a space where emerging and established performers could shine, while Plashinov’s presence added a compelling solo voice to the program. Pop Goes the Easel was also present to capture the afternoon and show support for our featured artist, Victor Rodrigo Ruiz—you can read more about him here. Calvary Presbyterian Church, known for hosting an inclusive range of cultural, musical, and community‑oriented events, provided a welcoming and acoustically rich setting that elevated the experience for performers and attendees alike. Filling the historic sanctuary with warmth and enthusiasm, the audience reflected a broad mix of neighbors, students, families, and classical music enthusiasts. The event’s success underscored both the talent of the artists and the church’s ongoing commitment to offering accessible, high‑quality programming that brings people together through the arts.

We were delighted to see the sanctuary filled with attendees whose presence and support made the afternoon even more special.
